It depends on what the salt air has done to it. If the flapper is just stiff with grit and light corrosion and the hinge still swings, cleaning the hood and clearing the lint packed behind it usually gets it working again. On the older single-story beach homes that vent short out a sidewall or through the eave, that short run helps, but it also means the damp lint sits right where the hood is and packs the last couple of feet solid. That's usually the blockage, not the middle of the duct.

It takes more care, not more force. We use brushes sized to the run and clear from both ends where we can get at them, rather than pushing debris deeper into a bend. We also check the transition hose behind the unit, which in tight closets gets crushed flat against the wall and chokes airflow on its own.

How is the price figured, and what makes it higher or lower on this street versus the next one?

It comes down to how the vent is built and how we get to it. A single-story home with a short sidewall run and clear ground access sits at the simpler end. What moves it up is a stacked unit that has to come out of a closet, elbows that need clearing from two directions, a run that exits through the eave and needs a ladder, or a corroded hood that has to be replaced rather than cleaned. Solana Beach lots are compact, so exterior access is rarely the problem here. The interior arrangement in the condos and townhomes is what usually adds time. If my dryer suddenly stopped drying, how fast can someone get out?

Solana Beach is small and we cover it as part of the coastal North County route, so same-day or next-day is realistic most weeks, and short-notice calls here are often easier to fit than in larger service areas. If your dryer is running long cycles, the top of the machine is hot to the touch, or you can see the hood outside is not opening when the dryer runs, say so when you call.
